Do you like Chicken Nuggets?
Well, if you do, you can thank Robert C. Baker, a food scientist who researched how to solve the problem of getting breading to stick to chicken so you could fry it and eat it. Baker began working as a professor for Cornell University in 1957, and was tasked with finding new ways for people to eat more poultry. Around 50 chicken products are credited to Baker and his team, including chicken baloney, chicken steak, chicken salami, chicken chili, and chicken ham. I hear he also had a famous chicken barbecue recipe... is it time to eat yet?!
What's been happening inside that shell?
I'm the Anatomy & Physiology instructor at New Castle Homeschool Co-op for the 2017-18 school year. As an extension to our class, my family is participating in a 4-H Embryology Program, and will be hatching up to 24 white leghorn chicks in Mid-March. If you would like to learn and enjoy the project with us, we'd love to have you along!
